Addition of Fractions/Examples/Half plus Third

Example of Addition of Fractions

$\dfrac 1 2 + \dfrac 1 3 = \dfrac 5 6$

Proof

\(\ds \dfrac 1 2 + \dfrac 1 3\) \(=\) \(\ds \dfrac {3 \times 1} {3 \times 2} + \dfrac {2 \times 1} {2 \times 3}\)
\(\ds \) \(=\) \(\ds \dfrac 3 6 + \dfrac 2 6\)
\(\ds \) \(=\) \(\ds \dfrac {3 + 2} 6\)
\(\ds \) \(=\) \(\ds \dfrac 5 6\)
