Maragheh is a city in and the capital of Maragheh County, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran.

Most of the Maragheh residents consider themselves Iranian Azerbaijani. Maragheh was the capital of Ilkhanid Dynasty for a short time in thirteenth century.

  • 🌍 Maragheh Observatory (Faː رصدخانه). An institutionalized astronomical observatory which was established in 1259 CE under the patronage of the Ilkhanid Hulagu and the directorship of Nasir al-Din al-Tusi, a Persian scientist and astronomer. In the heights west of Maragheh, East Azerbaijan Province, Iran, it was once considered one of the most prestigious observatories in the world. 
  • 🌍 Qirmizi Gunbad (Faː گنبد سرخ). A tower belong to Sajoughi period (12th century). 
  • 🌍 Guy Gunbad (Faːگنبد کبود). The grave for Halgu Khan (first ruler of Ilkhanid Dynasty) built in 13th century.
