I would like to visit a small island country or an overseas island territory of an EU country somewhere around the equator (The Carribean, Oceania or Africa). I would like to know which of those countries and territories are the best suited for lone hikers -- someone who will just walk out of their accommodation in the morning and go explore the nature around. For example, how do those countries look in terms of:

  • crime rates against travelers outside of cities/towns (such as robberies in forests or someone jumping out of the bushes and running away with your stuff while you are swimming on a wild beach);
  • natural dangers (such as aggressive wild animals, plants that are dangerously poisonous even if you touch them or an absurd amount of mosquitoes);
  • local customs that might get you in trouble if you don't know them (such as taboo places or unusual laws about private property). Local customs might apply differently to different travelers, so I'll specify that I'm a straight white male (although I wouldn't like to encourage any local traditions that discriminate anyone).

In particular, I'm thinking about the following places: Grenada, Guadeloupe (France), Martinique (France), The Seychelles, Palau, Fiji, Vanuatu. But information about any other tropical island country or territory will also be appreciated.
