I’m an Indian National traveling from India to USA via LHR and British Airways, on a valid H1B work visa stamp. Im trying to determine if I need a transit visa. One of the questions being asked when I visit uk.gov website is if I will pass through UK border control. Im not sure about this. My incoming flight into LHR is ba0138 which seems to land into Terminal 5. I have an 8 hour layover and my next flight leaves from Terminal 3 ba0289. So there will be changing of terminals. All of this is booked on one flight itinerary. Can you please advise on this Q, so I can determine if I need a transit visa or not?

You can transfer from terminal 5 to 3 without going through border control (instructions). If the itinerary is on a single ticket with the same airline, your checked-in luggage should be checked through to the final destination, and you won't need to deal with it in LHR. You can confirm with the airline whether they'll check the luggage through. If not - you'll need to exit through T5 arrivals, collect the luggage, go the T3 departures and check-in again. I've flown with BA through LHR many times, never once was my luggage not checked through.
