I was recently refused a UK Visa. I was supposed to travel to visit my friends there for a 9 day vacation. I was refused on, I assume, financial grounds and the ties to home country bit. I had submitted every possible document from my understanding of the requirements, and I am at a loss to understand the exact reasons for refusal.
This was my first visa application, I had travelled to Malaysia and Thailand last year, but both were visa free entries (I'm from India). The extract from the refusal letter is as follows (masked personal details):
- You state that you are employed as a ________ by ______ earning a monthly income of 160000.00 INR (£1,440.04 where £1 = 111.108 as per Oanda.com exchange rate on 24/03/2025). You state that your monthly expenditure is 70000.00 INR (£630.02) and you intend to spend £1500 (166,663 INR) on your trip.
- You have provided a bank statement from ____ Bank in your name with an account number ending ____.The documents and information you have submitted in support of your application show differences between actual income and the income stated on your VAF. I can see a credit to the account of 50,000 INR (£450.01) on the 15/02/2025 which is not explained by any of the other documents supplied. Therefore, I am not satisfied that the funds deposited are genuinely available and consequently I am doubtful that I have a genuine reflection of your financial circumstances.
- You have stated that your monthly expenditure is 70000.00 INR (£630.02). The bank statement from ____ Bank in your name with an account number ending ____ demonstrates significant differences from your declared monthly expenditure. For example, I can see a single debit from this account in the sum of 74,047 INR (£666.44) on the 15/02/2025. These discrepancies are consistent throughout the entire account statement provided. The discrepancies between the information you have stated in your Visa Application Form and the documents you have provided in support of your application greatly damages the overall credibility of your application. I am therefore not satisfied that your circumstances are as declared.
- I have considered the documents and information you have provided about your personal and economic circumstances. The documents you have provided do not demonstrate that you have any other family in your home country. On the balance of probabilities, I am not satisfied that you have demonstrated that you have ties to your home country which would encourage you to leave should you be granted entry to the UK.
- Given the above I am not satisfied that you are genuinely seeking entry for a purpose that is permitted under the visitor route and that you will leave the UK at the end of your visit. Your application is therefore refused under paragraph V 4.2 (a) and (c) of the immigration rules.
- In relation to this decision, there is no right of appeal or right to administrative review
These were the documents I enclosed -
- Cover letter, mentioning my intention of travel, my itinerary, and where I'll stay. I talked about my salary, savings, and all the additional documents I attached
- Invitation letter from my friend + His BRP + His Passport copy
- NOC letter from my employer
- 6 months bank statement, signed & stamped by bank
- 4 months worth pay slips (more on this below)
- Income tax returns from last 3 years
- Offer letter from my current employer mentioning my current salary
- Mutual fund holdings statement
Some other points to add which I feel are pertinent to my current situation -
- I joined my current job in mid-January. So I submitted my January and February pay slips from my current employer, and Nov/Dec pay slips from my last company. Consequently my Jan pay slip only has half the salary shown (mid-joining), and my Feb pay slip has my Joining bonus included (close to INR 3,00,000 ~2750 GBP). I mentioned all this in my cover letter.
- I hold a account balance close to INR 5,00,000 (~4500 GBP) in the above account (which is also my salary account). In hindsight, over the last 3-4 months there have been occasions when the balance has dropped quite low, since my salary in Nov/Dec was withheld by my previous company as part of full and final settlement, and I had to live off the savings. Please let me know if this had a bearing on the visa refusal.
- The 50,000 INR credit mentioned above was a self-transfer I had made from another one of my accounts to pay my credit card bill (the 74,047 INR mentioned above). In hindsight, I realize I should've attached my other savings account statement too. Also I mentioned the 70,000 INR for monthly expenditure as a average ballpark figure, it goes up and down most months.
- For the point on not having ties to the home country, I am honestly at a loss for words. I have my parents living in my hometown (details were mentioned in the VAF), and I thought the NOC letter from my employer would cover the tier to home country point. I'm not sure what extra I should've submitted as proofs.
To the community -
- Please help me understand what exactly went wrong with my application.
- Will the rejection above have a bearing on future visa applications, and what steps should I take to avoid similar rejections?
Thanks! (Sorry I know it is a long read, but I wanted to be as comprehensive as possible). Please let me know if you have any extra questions about my current circumstances.
