I am visiting Virginia and North Carolina next August and September. My original plan was to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway but I have read that the road was damaged by hurricane Helene. I understand most of the road is currently open in Virginia but large sections are still closed in North Carolina.
I am looking for other scenic routes, as alternatives to the Blue Ridge Parkway, mainly in the North Carolina section. I would also appreciate any advice on viewpoints, short hikes (1-2 hours) or other activities along the route.
