I'm a foreign national currently residing in the UK. I'd like to know if there is an official and complete list of documents required to make a successful Greece Schengen visa application.

On browsing https://uk-gr.gvcworld.eu/ I reached https://uk-gr.gvcworld.eu/en/visa-info-tourism and after a few clicks to expand hidden sections, I found a table listing only 4 documents:

  1. Visa application form
  2. Two recent passport-sized pictures
  3. Passport
  4. Medical insurance

Below the table there is a link like this:

Additionally, and according to the purpose of the journey, applicant shall present the necessary required documents.

But that link just takes us back to https://uk-gr.gvcworld.eu/en/visa-required-documents which has a link to https://uk-gr.gvcworld.eu/en/visa-info-tourism again. So it's just a loop of two links pointing to each other.

Although the table listing those 4 documents is helpful, I'm beginning to suspect that it might not be the complete list. Surely they need some proof of finances? And some proof of employment? Why doesn't the table mention these documents?

Is there a complete list of the documents somewhere?

Buried deep within the Greek Embassy in London's website, one can find the Greek Foreign Ministry's official list of required supporting documents.

I recommend reading that list carefully to see which documents exactly apply to your situation, but in order to apply for a visa for tourism, you must generally provide proof of your status in the UK, bank and credit card statements, employment information, and evidence of hotel or other accommodation. Other documents may be required depending on if you are financially supported by someone else, or are applying for a visa for a different purpose of travel.

The logic is the system is to describe a set of facts that you need to establish, not a specific list of documents. Some documents are practically required for most applicants (say a bank statement, proof of address, or proof of health insurance) but you're free to add others that may be relevant so there cannot be any canonical list.

On the page you linked to, ignore the link in "Additionally, and according to the purpose of the journey, applicant shall present the necessary required documents" which does not work.

Instead, continue scrolling (beyond what looks like the end of the page) until you get to the Required documents section on that page. It does include a lot of information, as well as a link to the checklist.
