Lyon is a city in east-central France in the Rhône-Alpes region, situated between Paris and Marseille. Lyon is located approximately 470 km from Paris, 320 km from Marseille, 420 km (261 mi) from Strasbourg, 160 km (99 mi) from Geneva, and 280 km from Turin.

The population of Lyon is 484344 (in 2010). Together with its suburbs and satellite towns, Lyon forms the largest conurbation in France outside Paris, with a population estimated to be 1551228 (2010) its overall metropolitan area was estimated to have a population of 2118132.3[4]
