My cousin and I (from Western Europe) plan on going on a Balkan road trip at the end of June. We have tickets for Dubrovnik and plan on renting a car in Trebinje (Bosnia) and return it to Trebinje. Our aim is to travel through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. Our travel itinerary is more or less complete.

I would like to know if there are any specifics to know before renting a car for an international trip in this area. I looked up tourist guides and the information I could find is the following:

  • Make sure that the rental company covers international travel
  • Choose a rental with unlimited distance
  • Take pictures of the car before going on the trip
  • No need for an international driver's licence, our European ones should suffice
  • Make sure to cross countries in the right order as Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo

Are those points correct? Is there anything else I should check?

You can find directly at Sarajevo Airport. You must notify them in advance if you plan to drive outside Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the lessor may charge an additional fee according to the Price List.
