My cousin and I (from Western Europe) plan on going on a Balkan road trip at the end of June. We have tickets for Dubrovnik and plan on renting a car in Trebinje (Bosnia) and return it to Trebinje. Our aim is to travel through Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo. Our travel itinerary is more or less complete.
I would like to know if there are any specifics to know before renting a car for an international trip in this area. I looked up tourist guides and the information I could find is the following:
- Make sure that the rental company covers international travel
- Choose a rental with unlimited distance
- Take pictures of the car before going on the trip
- No need for an international driver's licence, our European ones should suffice
- Make sure to cross countries in the right order as Serbia doesn't recognize Kosovo
Are those points correct? Is there anything else I should check?
