Boston is the capital of Massachusetts and the largest city in New England. The city dates its history back to 1630, when it was named after Boston, Lincolnshire. The city has a very colorful history including many crucial events leading to the American Revolution.

The city has an economy rated 6th largest in the United States and 12th in the world. The city is home for a large number of Fortune 500 corporations and a large number of universities such as Boston University, MIT, and while not in Boston proper, Harvard is still considered to be in Boston, while its actual location is in Cambridge, MA, just across the river from the city.

Can you tell a cabbie which route to take?

I'm going back home to Virginia for the Thanksgiving holiday and I'll be taking a taxi to Boston Logan. I've noticed that in the past, the cabbie tends to take a longer route. Is it bad etiquette to dictate which route I'd like him/her to take?
