For questions about European ID cards, that can often be used instead of passports.

In the EU many countries issue ID cards which all follow the same pattern. These can be used for identification within the country but also for travel between EU countries and some countries outside the EU accept some of them in lieu of a passport. Some EU countries do not issue the cards but they do still accept the cards issued by other countries.
