Not to be confused with cable cars like in San Francisco, which are also known by terms like "streetcar" and "tram", and also not to be confused with gondolas like in the canals of Venice, gondolas, cable cars, aerial tramways, ropeways, and several other names all refer to an assortment of type of transport which share the characteristic of carriages suspended from high cables. Often in steep alpine environments but also just as tourist attractions.
