"5 = 1€" for souvenirs in Paris, why do they write the price this way?

In Paris, many street souvenir vendors have their stuff laid on the ground and a piece of paper says "5 = 1€". Well, 1€ for 5 souvenirs would be a pretty good price but no, the price is 5€ for 1 piece. Why do they write the price this way?
