I would like to ask about when I can stay until in the Netherlands. It is confusing because I have been getting different answers from different people.

I am travelling with a US passport and my recent past travel history to the Schengen area is as follows:

  • July 19 to Aug. 10, 2024 --- visited Germany,
  • Dec. 4 to Dec. 31, 2024 --- visited the Netherlands,
  • Jan. 23, 2025 to now --- visiting the Netherlands.

Other than the above, I think the last time I was in Europe was in around 2001.

I was told at an IND office in Amsterdam that the last day I can stay in the Netherlands is March 3, i.e., the 90-th day counting from Dec. 4, 2024 being the first day, despite being away from Europe from Jan. 1, 2025 to Jan. 22, 2025.

On the contrary, I was told by a police officer at Schiphol Airport that the last day is March 25, 2025.

What is the correct last day?

Your stay in July/August is now out of the 180-day window so is irrelevant.

You stayed 28 days in December, and these most definitely count until June.

That means that in the 180-day window starting December 4th, you have 62 days left.

With an entry on January 23rd, you can stay until March 25th.
