Gibraltar is a 6 km² British Overseas Territory located on the northern edge of the Strait of Gibraltar which connects the sea to the Atlantic Ocean. It borders in .

Gibraltar's currency is the Gibraltar pound (GIP). The GIP is pegged to the British pound, and British coins and notes are accepted in Gibraltar (but the converse is not true).

Although Gibraltar is part of the European Union, it is not part of the EU customs union, so there are customs controls as well as immigration controls between Gibraltar and Spain. Neither Schengen visas nor UK visas are valid for Gibraltar in general. EU nationals can enter with their identity card.
