Programs which pre-screen passengers and certify people deemed to be low-risk to bypass some screenings at immigration, customs, or security checkpoints.

So-called “Trusted Traveler” programs pre-screen passengers and certify people deemed to be low-risk to bypass some screenings at immigration, customs, or security checkpoints.

They differ from regional that allow travel without a visa within a region, or which obviate other travel documents. They should also be distinguished from automated kiosks, electronic passport gates, biometric scanners, or other screening tools which are implemented for general use without prior enrollment in a scheme. Programs vary widely, but commonly involve a background check, submission of biometric information, and an interview.

Well-known programs in the English-speaking world include the Registered Traveller service in the , CANPASS in , and TSA Pre✓ and Global Entry in the .

While most such programs are government-run and prosaic in services, some, like Privium in the , offer other amenities such as reserved parking or lounge access. And some, like Clear in the U.S., offer expedited screening at non-travel facilities, such as sports arenas.
